Service Outages

9/30/2002 Update: Screw the static ip. I have changed to ATT cable modem service and will figure something out for keeping DNS up to date. So far, I have had the service for three weeks. It is three times as fast and I have not experienced a single outage. Screw off Pacbell, you suck. Oh, and I forgot to change the config on the downtime reporter and on 9/27, the day I restarted my server after the cable service was installed, I recorded an outage on my old gateway IP address. So it wasn't me after all. I may just keep monitoring my old gateway just to see if the outages are as freqent now that I'm gone. Eliminate the variable of my house, so to speak.

My DSL service through SBC Pacbell sucks. But due to lack of competition with a similar service (static ip), I am powerless to do anything about it. I started monitoring my DSL line for downtime last year. Below you can see a history of all the downtime I have experienced since July 2001. After calling the SBC Pacbell support line several times to no avail (and several hours of lost time), I got fed up enough to try to resolve the situation with Pacbell via email in March this year.
